Perceptions Journal with Amanda Djerf

Amanda Djerf portrait

Surfer, retreat curator, traveller. Amanda Djerf’s world is shaped by tides, movement and light. Originally from Sweden and now based in Biarritz, her days often begin with a slow coffee and end with a sunset swim. With a presence that’s both grounded and glowing, Amanda moves through life with a calm confidence, nurturing a deep connection to nature, her body, and the rhythms that keep her centred.

We spoke to Amanda about beauty beyond appearance, the ocean’s greatest lessons, and why a forest run is the ritual that always brings her home to herself.

What was a moment that changed your perception of beauty?

I can't think of a single moment, but at some point in my mid twenties I started to really find myself and I think that confidence allowed me to embrace and express myself better, which also changed the way I perceived beauty—both in myself and my surroundings.

What is your number one beauty product?

I can't live without a good serum, and love the Skin Sponge Serum and how soft it makes my skin.

What skincare product or practice do you come back to if your skin is unbalanced?

When my skin is unbalanced I feel like it's normally a sign of imbalance in my life, so I try to slow down which for me normally starts with getting back to a good morning routine. I also have a red light therapy mask that is a good boost to my routine!

Who is a muse for you when it comes to beauty?

My little sister, Matilda Djerf. She has a natural beauty that I've always adored and an admirable sense for fashion that is simple and timeless. She's always had the ability to source the most stunning pieces and has instilled in me the value of choosing quality over quantity when it comes to both fashion and beauty products.

How does beauty feel to you?

To me - beauty feels calm and confident and starts from within. When I'm in a good place mentally and make time for what truly brings me joy, that's when I feel the most beautiful. It's often a sense of feeling strong in my body and open, flexible in my mind.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I love the rhythm of life in Southern France, and living right by the ocean I let the surf set my schedule - every day looks different but is always a mix of pleasure and work. I'm most inspired and creative in the mornings, so I try to open my laptop and get to work as soon as I can, but always after a slow cup of coffee and some movement (either a surf, walk or a stretch). If there's waves I go for a lunch surf, otherwise I push through some more admin. Afternoons and evenings are normally spent outside - in movement, with friends, or in the water. I rarely miss a sunset and enjoy ending my day over a good dinner with my boyfriend.

What is one grounding ritual that always brings you back to yourself?

A run in the forest. Movement always clears my mind and it's something with the lush and green nature that really calms and helps me reset.

What is your current skincare routine?

I'm currently into cold morning showers (soon season of morning swims!!) and begin my skincare routine with the Milky Emulsion Cleanser followed by the Skin Sponge Serum. Recently, I’ve been switching between the Deep Blue C Cream and the Jojoba Face Oil with a gua sha routine. I always finish with a layer of spf.

Share a moment that your skin felt it's most radiant, what do you feel contributed to this?

It's definitely after a day of either total relaxation in the sun or complete movement. Also the combination of sunlight, feeling content, and saltwater gives me a radiance that I just can't achieve any other way.

What is one lesson the ocean (or nature) has taught you?

To enjoy and appreciate the simple things. My love for the ocean has given me a lifestyle that values prioritising pleasure over achievement - and for that I am so grateful.
